Counselling, Information & Referral

The Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre provides counselling, information and referral to all members of our diverse communities.

Counsellors are available for phone support or individual face-to-face counselling.

The counsellor is here to:

  • answer questions about services;
  • assist clients in finding solutions (i.e. house, paying bills);
  • make referrals to services you need within the Western Ottawa CRC or in the community;
  • provide short-term counselling;
  • provide crisis intervention for individuals and families;
  • and most importantly to provide a supportive ear.

Counsellors are available Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (September to May), 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (June to August)

We recommend calling 613-591-3686 to speak to, or make an appointment to see a counsellor.

Counsellors are also available for walk-in clients, however it is preferable to call ahead if possible.

Community Development Program

Our Community Developers work with local groups and individuals to find out what needs or problems exist in the community and to develop creative solutions. The program aims to help community groups develop new programs or expand existing services.

Limitations of Counselling

Please be aware that when abuse within an intimate relationship is an issue, the Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre has a policy of not providing couple counselling. This policy is in response to research and clinical experience showing that couple counselling is ineffective and potentially dangerous when there is ongoing abuse in the relationship. The Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre is committed to working with these families, by assessing individual needs and making appropriate recommendations/referrals.
