The ZONE - Youth Volunteer Opportunities

The Zone is  a great place for students to start if looking for interesting opportunities to complete the required 40 hours of community service for the completion of secondary school in Ontario.  Our staff is continually looking for great opportunities for youth to get engaged in community projects.

New for Spring 2010 – the ZONE will offer a community service program for youth that is currently in the works, so stay tuned. This program will be dedicated to helping community youth develop leadership skills through valuable volunteer work within the community. Activities will be decided by the group and could include workshops, organizing events and fundraising.

The Zone in Motion

This program is supplemental to our static drop-in location, and functions as an outreach program. The program will be available in the summer months to various communities within the catchments area.

We are committed to providing services responsive to community needs. We design and deliver seminars and workshops to fit the particular needs of a group or organization, and welcome your suggestions for programming.

Youth Community Development

The Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre has a Youth Community Developer that works with local individuals and community groups to identify existing needs or issues involving youth in our community and to help develop and coordinate services in Goulbourn, Kanata and West Carleton.

Community Development activities include:

  • Providing information to community members about existing services

  • Offering public education opportunities about a variety of issues (i.e. mental health, bullying, internet safety, child development, parenting)

  • Helping community groups to develop new programs or expand existing programs for youth and families

  • Providing assistance to individuals and community groups by working with them on social issues and concerns. Support them in engaging within their community, whether it is community education, advocacy, outreach or health promotion.

  • Empowering, encouraging, and supporting community members to identify needs and develop strategies to address issues related to youth and families.
